Southern Flinders Maintenance

Next week, volunteers will be working on walking trails in Mt Brown Conservation Park and The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park near Quorn.

Both walks are loops that take in the summit with stunning views - the above, looking west from near the summit of The Dutchman.

The WTSG volunteers tasks include

• asset checking - make sure guide posts are in place and their decals are readable

• clearing hazards such as fallen trees

• cutting back vegetation growing over the path

• cleaning drains to ensure that flowing water does not erode the track

We will be replacing the topogram at the summit; the existing has been in place for over 10 years and shows signs of wear.

The decals are produced by volunteer art-work and printing by Dizzi Decals in Glynde where Spyro has always been very helpful. The printed topogram is then stuck onto a metal plate that will be carried up to the summit and installed on the support post.

The Dutchmans Stern is so named because from a distance it looks like the stern of a Dutch ship.
